Why is it so

Was texting an overseas friend this morning. I dun usually used Singlish but lately due to blogging, I have been using much Singlish so I "accidentally" used the word "Aiyah!" when I texted him and he replied...

Him : What is "Aiyah"?

Me : It means "why like that". It's singlish.

Him : Why like that?

Me : Yup!!

Few seconds passed....

Me (to self) : Alamak! "Why like that" is also Singlish hor. Alamak!!

Me : Sorry.. "why like that" is not a proper description. It's singlish too. It should be "Why is it so".

Him : ok Lah [Kekeke! This, I had taught him previously.]

Now I went to check the online Singlish Dictionary Definition and it's...

aiyah /ı-yah, ÃIÈjAù/ int. [Mand. 哎呀 āiyā] An exclamation used at the beginning of a sentence to express consternation, despair, dismay, exasperation, etc.

E.g. Aiyah!! What so cheem!? ;-P
