Miss Sweetie-Goody-NOT

As I was performing my usual duty shelving books in the library, a guy approached me and "complained" to me about inconsiderate Library users. Cheh! What's new? I've been performing this duty for good many years and the library do get all sorts of weird and inconsiderate users. Anyway, he was quite helpful and started to clear up some books for me... And then he kind of "instructed" me to go and "scold" the users. Ahem.. which i replied that I am a volunteer and I am not "authorise" to do so. Upon mentioning this word Volunteer, it seems a halo had just appeared above my head. His eyes went WOW!!

Okie... I am not belittling volunteers. In fact I work with a whole bunch of nice ones in different groups that I have voluntered with. I saw a fair share of "good" and "bad" volunteers. Nope... the "bad" volunteers do not work less than the "good" ones, in fact, sometimes they work even harder and more than the so-called "good" ones. This is really the TRUE TRUE TRUE of inside volunteering, many volunteer for a 101 reason and for many kinds of agenda. Any volunteer does not necessary equates to selfless, full-devotion, kind-hearted and pure goody sweet creature. NO!!! I must really emphasize that. So doing volunteering in many times does not mean that person is kind and nice and good. It does not and it irks me when the general people tend to "brand" us so!!

Thank you for that Halo but it's best that you keep it for yourself. AND I am definitely not the "Goody goody sweetie Little Angel" that goes around "saving" the World. OH!! NO no!! So very wrong. I volunteer for the library only because I love to read. I volunteer for the national park only because I like to do nature walks. I volunteer for ASD only because I love dogs. I volunteer for SADeaf only because I love my friends. There are all selfish reasons. NOT at all noble and grand. I do for the sake of myself and not for the world. HA!!! =P

Another thing that really irks me is general view that volunteers are kind people and that they make good boyfriend or girlfriend. Which is again... NO difference. Volunteers and Non-volunteers are the same and whether they are good and kind potential soul-mates is a total different issue. So one should never consider that as a criteria at all.

So dun call me "Sweet", it gives me goose bumps. =P
