Sho-U

First it was Waraku, then it was kyomomoyama and now Sho-U. All 3 restaurants were located on the same level at The Central. Sho-U serves a good variety of Japanese Fusion dishes and the service of the restaurant staffs were superb. When we accidentally dropped a chopstick, even before we notifed or got their attention, a new pair was passed to us in exchange. I understand that the chef of Sho-U is formerly with ANA Hotel's Unkai Japanese Restaurant for more than 15 years. The ambience of the restaurant was quite interesting. The colors : black, red and white were used to "divide" the restaurant into 3 cosy areas for diners. Well, we chose the white cosy corner facing the river. Even the designs was a fusion between modern lines and Japanese notifies like below...

Modern Cutleries

In clockwise starting Top left corner : (1) Salad (2) Chawanmushi trio - sharkfins, cheese, sea urchin (3) Ika with Onsen tamago (aka squid with Hot spring egg yolk) sushi (4) Eggplant with Unagi (5) Natto Hiyashi Yamakake Soba (6) Mashed Potato (7) Dessert : Beer Sherbet (8) Onigiri zoushi (aka rice ball porridge) (9) Kami Nabe (10) Pork (11) Gindara with Onsen tamago (12) Raw Tuna

All the dishes had a rather unique taste, not the usual Japanese cuisine. The chawanmushi came in 3 types served in shot glasses. 2 of my most "surprise" dishes would be onigiri zoushi and the beer sherbet. Most porridge serves rice that tastes soft and watery, for the onigiri zoushi because the porridge is made of rice balls, it taste a little hard and cripsy. Of course, I was so thrilled to spot beer sherbet and sho-chu (aka distilled alcoholic beverage) ice cream. Well, Moi is not such a fan of Sho-Chu so i settled for beer sherbet. Dun be confused sho-chu with Sake, there are 2 different types of alcohols. The beer sherbet was lovely. One of my dinner-mate actually shared with me how he made beer sherbet himself. Open up the can of beer and freeze it into the freeze, stir it every 2 hours to make sure that the ice does not get too chucky. Then add a little bit of sugar in as beer each time so that the beer does not get too bitter. Sounds easy har. Yup! Yup! Yup! Moi is going to try it! Hahahaha!

My Drinks : Beer and Sake
