First Day At Work

I thought I would dread it a lot. Surprisingly I am quite happy to be back at work. At least I feel my life is starting to get back to "normal". But of course I am suffering from terrible akachan withdrawal symptoms because I miss her very very much. Umm..how much...I can stare at her photo and want to cry.. yeah that much. Really miss my little one. Miss her "goo-goo" and "ga-ga", miss her smile, just miss her ...

Not so busy at the moment or rather I choose not to be busy at the moment. Actually quite a couple of things in my tray now, but no mood to get into gear ... luckily I choose a Thurs to start my day ... because I got tommorrow to look forward to already. :p Hee hee... Can't wait to go back home and hug her.

Compile-time String Constant

After doing java for so long, and though everytime interview, I like to ask people what does final mean in java. I can still make this mistake when helping a colleague to check what is wrong with his program. How come after he change the constant class and patch into the jar file, the other class is still showing the old constant value ... sigh... I finally solve the mystery ... but couldn't believe that it took me that looo.......oonnnnng ...

Am I getting old?

Pregnancy making me more forgetful? hahaha...

maybe time to sharpen my skills. *sigh*

Still lost as to what I am saying, you can look at the article below:
Compile-time String Constant Quiz

Happy coding and hopefully after reading this, you won't make the same silly mistake as me. :)

"Love China" MSN

Since last Wednesday, my offshore devt team in Suzhou has been blooming with love in their MSN status. :) Yeah to show their love for china and olympics.

Hee hee..I decided to follow their "footpath" but not to love china but love the earth. :p Sorry though I am also yellow in skin, but I don't think of myself as 中国人 as I am not of china nationality. But I do admire their nationalism, unity and patriotism. :) So for those out there who share their vision, do start your (L) CHINA in your msn status.

Cheers for Beijing Olympics!!!! *\(^_^)/*

Have you eaten a dinosaur egg? :)

Hee hee..not talking about the real dinosaur egg. But the plum-like fruit. :) That I have always mistaken it to be the less sour version of plum. Just discovered that the name of this fruit is dinosaur egg. Unlike plum, the dinosaur egg taste much sweeter. :) And also after surfing around, realise that this dinosaur egg is actually a cross-breed of plum (70%) and apricot (30%).

I would now leave you to your reading, while I am going to munch my dinosaur egg. :p

Ask iris

Sorry know I have not been blogging for ages. :) So today wanted to share something. If you all have been taking bus like me. Then iris is someone that you MUST know if you have not known yet. iris is the acronym for Intelligent Route Information System by SBS Transit. There is actually 2 main services provided by iris, the iris Journey Planner and the iris NextBus.

iris Journey Planner helps you plan the best way to get to your destination by providing travel solutions on our bus, LRT and/or NEL, based on the cheapest fare, shortest walking distance or shortest travelling time. But I find it might not always give you a good answer. Sometimes the route it plan seem to take me all over Singapore. :p But then maybe the location I am looking at is too ulu. :p

iris NextBus is our latest iris service and it offers bus arrival time estimation on a real time basis. You now have the convenience of knowing how many minutes away your bus is from your bus stop or how long more before the next bus departs from the bus interchange. iris NextBus is available on our website and via GPRS and sms on mobile devices. This service is a service that I use almost everytime when I am going home. :) So that I do not have to waste too much time waiting at the bus stop as sometimes my bus service can take very long to come. :p But do give yourself about 10 - 8 mins buffer to get to the bus stop. Because depending on the traffic condition, sometimes the waiting time might get shortened or lengthened. The only disappointing thing I have is that the sms is only available for SingTel customers. So I can't use the sms service. :(

Internet
http://www.sbstransit.com.sg/iris3/nextbus.aspx

SMS
The service is chargeable at $0.05 by SingTel and available exclusively to SingTel mobile subscribers only. There will also be one SMS deduction for post-paid customers while prepaid or stored-value card customers, with no FREE SMS bundle will need to pay an additional $0.05 or $0.10 altogether per iris NextBus query.
For more details, you can refer to http://www.sbstransit.com.sg/iris/mobile_devices-sms.aspx.

GPRS
To access iris on your mobile devices please key in www.sbstransit.com.sg/mobileiris for mobile phones or http://www.sbstransit.com.sg/iris3/pdanextbus.aspx for PDAs.

Hope that you all would find iris as useful as I do. ^_^

Makan Express NO MORE!

Last Saturday was in a "delivery" order mood. So we decided to call this makan express to order some lunch from Thai Express. They needed minimum $20 to make a delivery. So we ordered a tom yam soup ($6.90), a green curry with jasmine rice ($8.90), small portion of rice ($0.60) and fried tofu beancurd as appertizer ($5.90). Which amount to about $22.30 plus additional $2 delivery charges, some 5% gst and some 10% service charge; which should be around $28.

We called them up before 11.30 since the line is only open at 11. And was hoping we can be eating by 12.30. The lady at the other line say they would take an hour to deliver and calculated the total bill to be exactly $30. Which we were both very surprised but decided to just wait for the final bill later to see how it get add up to $30.

So we waited till slightly after 12.30 before the food came. Then we realised we just got a recipt that stamped $30 (no break down) and they totally forgot that extra portion of rice. So been not very happy about their not so clear receipt (anyhow charge) and also their forgetfulness. We called them up again and request for the rice. They said they need to check with the restaurant and call us back later. They called us back quite fast but we were told that they are sorry about the rice but they would be sending us back the rice like another hour later. So the lady on the other line said "You got to wait another hour for your rice, do you still want it?". So my husband replied, "Of course since you already charge me for it!". Was very angry with their service by now because although it was their mistake but instead of been apologetic, they are hoping we would just forget about the rice. So we just told them it was their mistake and they are making us wait and the food would have turn cold by then and we would expect them to deliver the rice ASAP.

But guess they didn't value another call from us as this time round the rice took more than 1 hour to come. And our calls were also not picked up after we try to call them after waiting for 1 hour for that rice.

So morale of the story ... makan express (or cusine express) as what is printed on the receipt. You definitely have one less customer now. X-( And guess for delivery, I would just stick to MacDonald's.

3 8 in rememberance of Hachiko

Today is the famous 3 8 women's day. And my ladies peers at Suzhou are having half day. T_T ...where is my half day?

Needless to say this date must be chosen by some egoistic guy who has branded us woman as 3 8. But to my family, 3 8 day has another meaning. For us it is a day where we remembered Hachiko, the world's most faithful dog. ^_^)v

首先会遇到你最爱的人,然後体会到爱的感觉;
因为了解被爱的感觉,所以才能发现最爱你的人;
但很悲哀的,在现实生活中,这三个人通常不是同一个人;

你最爱的,往往没有选择你;
最爱你的,往往不是你最爱的;
他爱你的时候没有办法假装不爱你;
如果你也不爱他了,千万别为了可怜的自尊而不肯离开;

你只知道无论何时何地、心情好坏,你都希望这个人陪著你;
毕竟,感情必须付出,而不是只想获得;

明知道海不会枯、石不会烂、地不会老、天不会荒;

在爱情里,说的是一套,做的是另一套;

Stumble upon this when surfing the web. Find it very romantic, so decided to put here .... extracted from http://ccchg.bokee.com/

What Tarot Card are You?

Saw this at 安公子 blog so thinking to try this too. :)

You are The Lovers

Motive, power, and action, arising from Inspiration and Impulse.

The Lovers represents intuition and inspiration. Very often a choice needs to be made.

Originally, this card was called just LOVE. And that's actually more apt than "Lovers." Love follows in this sequence of growth and maturity. And, coming after the Emperor, who is about control, it is a radical change in perspective. LOVE is a force that makes you choose and decide for reasons you often can't understand; it makes you surrender control to a higher power. And that is what this card is all about. Finding something or someone who is so much a part of yourself, so perfectly attuned to you and you to them, that you cannot, dare not resist. This card indicates that the you have or will come across a person, career, challenge or thing that you will fall in love with. You will know instinctively that you must have this, even if it means diverging from your chosen path. No matter the difficulties, without it you will never be complete.

What is that thing called love ...

They said there are three distinct stages of love; each with their own characteristic emotional profile and scientific explanation.

First is lust. Lust is driven by our sex hormones testosterone and oestrogen. When we're teenagers, just after puberty, estrogen and testosterone become active in our bodies for the first time and create the desire to experience "love." After lust comes attraction. This is the love-struck phase; the time when we lose our appetite, can't sleep, and can't concentrate. This is what we know as falling in love.

When we fall in love, our palms sweat, we can stutter and become breathless, we can't think clearly and it feels like we have butterflies in our stomachs. This is all due to surging brain chemicals called monoamines. They are called dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin. Norepinephrine and serotonin excite us, while dopamine makes us feel happy. These love chemicals are controlled by a substance which is also found in chocolate and in strawberries, called PEA or phenylethylamine and it is PEA which controls the transition from lust to love. Similar in structure to amphetamine, PEA too gives us that excitement we crave. The old saying "love is blind" is really accurate in this stage. We are often oblivious to any flaws our partner might have. We idealize them and can't get them off our minds. This overwhelming preoccupation and drive is part of our biology.

The third stage of love is attachment - staying together. Attachment takes over from the attraction stage and is the bond which keeps couples together. After all, we couldn't possibly stay in the attraction stage for ever - we would never get any work done for day dreaming. Two different hormones are important during this phase of love. They are oxytocin and vasopressin.

Oxytocin (the cuddling chemical) not only increases the bond between lovers, but is also one of the chemicals responsible for contractions during childbirth, milk expression when breastfeeding.

Vasopressin is the monogamy chemical. Only about three percent of mammals are monogamous; mating and bonding with one partner for life. Unfortunately, humans are not one of these naturally monogamous animals.

Endorphins are also involved in the longevity of love. Endorphins have the same pain-killing and pleasure-delivering properties as their cousin, morphine, without the risk of overdose.

Umm... so when it comes to choosing our Mr/Mrs Right, are we at the mercy of our subconscious or do we make a more conscious decision? :)

Only you can make yourself happy ^_^

To me happy is defined within yourself. It's a choice you have to make.
It doesn't matter what crappy job or life you are in now. No matter what circumstances or conditions, remember that you are actually in full command of your own life.

You have only one life and it is up to you how you want to spend it. ^_^

And just wanted to say no matter how tired sometimes I am at work (like still working at this time), or meet with some really unhappy stuff...but when I know that I am so blessed to be loved by my Twinz, my dearie, my family and friends. I really feel very contented and cannot ask for more. So look no further, happiness is in your hands. ^___^

Cheer up

Feel sad reading my fren blog (who is having some mixed feelings), but I hope he would not give up on life and himself. I do not know what I can do to cheer him up.

But I like to share this story with him:
Actually this story is about a neighbour (when I still stayed in Bedok), who is also handicapped since birth; in a condition similar to my fren. Of course when I knew him as a neighbour I was a kid and he was much older than me. We never talked before but he would always greet my grandma and they would exchange some casual remarks.

I guess it never occurred to me then as a kid that this uncle is going to ever settled down and have a family. But he did, he got married to a beautiful wife and he has 3 healthy kids. :)

I always feel your life will turn out to be what you feel it will be. If you feel that it is going to be gloomy, hopeless...I guess it definitely won't get any better. But if you feel it is going to be brighter, going to be better ... it will be. :)

For love, we can't order. If she is meant to be, she will be yours ... maybe you just have not met that special someone. I just hope if my fren read this, it would bring a smile on his face. :)

War with the fly

Day 3
Drizzling the whole day today. Hopefully can see the sun tommorrow. There is an irritating fly that was in my room, but not sure how it got in. Have been trying to get rid of him the whole of last nite without success. Hahaha....but I finally manage to swap it. Hee hee...now the fly is dead. :) So happy.

This morning waited for 45 mins for cab. Guess because it is raining heavily. In the afternoon, the PM here very nice bring us to go check out the electronic products. On the way in the cab, was told that a man fell into the river (which is the one in front of my hotel) this morning and drowned. As told by the cab driver, the body has been retrieved by the police at 10.30am. But when we past by the area at 12.30pm, the body is still there. *scary* Luckily it was raining and the windows is foggy, so I didn't see the body.

Met up with another colleague who came for another project and she took us to eat sushi buffet. :) Hee hee really value for money. All you can eat at 100RM which is 20SGD. And the best part, we can order many sashimi. :p Really full dinner today.

3 more days to go then I can come back. :) Though I kinda enjoy working here bec the environment is quite nice (except for the traffic and weather). :) But I really miss my family too. :) He ehee..so think better go back soon.

I am in Suzhou

Day 2
6:45 am Wake up

8:30 am Mr Xing came and pick us up to office today and we met another colleague that came from SG.

Today had briefing session with the team here with the new requirements. It was nice to finally meet them after talking with them over skype for the past 6 months. :) They are really nice.

Today raining whole day here. We couldn't catch a cab back, and one of the colleague here sent us back to hotel. Really very nice of her. On the way back, she told us a famous story about one of the road name. Must find out and paste the story here. :)

Temperature dropping fast ... cold.... hope the sun will come out soon...very sleepy now...going to bed.

Day 1
1:15 pm Reached PuDong Airport (@ Shanghai)
Weather is nice and cooling

4:30 pm Reached Gloria Hotel (@ Suzhou)

Went walking around to familiarise with the environment and SHOPPING. :) Greatest reward is bought the 三国 dvds and 金枝欲孽 dvds. Original some more and only cost 230 RM (which is 46 SGD). I just check out the dvds in SG, even after discount, cost me nearly 100 SGD. What a great buy! :D

But really eye opener with the traffic here. Forever get honk by the cyclists and cars there. Very chaotic traffic there...and especially motorcyclists and cabbies do not follow traffic rule ... so have to really watch out when you cross the road.

Got another culture shock when I am trying out some clothes. Because the mirror is outside of the changing room, so as I went out to change, a gal just dashed into the changing room. I quickly stop her to get my things out and then waited outside for her to finish changing before I can go in and change back. But guess that is somethig very different compared to singaporeans, they do not go by the rules. :p
