Hokkaido Gourmet

Had a long day today. Dragged myself out of bed against my most unwillingness. The weather this morning was simply too cool, too nice to be away from my blanket. But well i still need the income to eat, to shop, to pay bills; I still need the job to keep me from getting senile from under-usage of my brain; I still need the job to keep me insane enough to be able to co-exist with the rest of the world. Sometimes Moi mull over the existence of the human being and our purpose for this existence. Do we exist to find a meaning for our existence? OR Do we exist because we found the meaning of our existence?

To unwind my exhaustive brain, Moi went to the Hokkaido Gourmet promotion at Sun with Moon. WELL, Hokkaido served one of the best crabs in Japan so we tried two of them - (1) Tarabagani (Hokkaido giant crab) and (2) Kegani (Hokkaido hairy crab). Well for one thing the Hokkaido hairy crab is definitely much bigger than the one I just had. The meat was really fresh and sweet and Sun with Moon had de-shelled the crab so nicely that you can eat it quite easily without making a mess and dirtied your hands. This is definitely a BIG plus for lady eater like Moi. *wink* The little shell-like thing sitting on the burner is the kani miso. Well, I just had a little teeny weeny mouth of that thing which Moi does not really much fancy. It tasted just too fishy and sea-like for Moi. I had initially thought that kani miso was the eggs of the crab. Of course I got it all wrong. Kani miso refers to the brain of the crab. Sounds gross right??? Having to eat the brain of a crab. But the really concoction is actually more than just the crab's brain, it's also a mixture of the internal organs such as liver, pancreas and intestines. YUCKY!!

Kegani + Kani miso

Other dishes that we ordered were...

In clockwise starting Top left corner : (1) SUN Salad (2) Sanma sashimi (3) Tarabagani shioyaki (4) Cheese with Mentai (fish roe) (5) Sapporo Butter corn ramen (6) Dessert : oimo (7) Dessert : Tofu Cheesecake (8) Dessert : Kabocha creme brulee

Hey. I am so predictable... had the SUN salad again. Their sanma sashimi and tarabagani were really fresh. In case you can't figure out from the photos... Photo 3 shows only part of the legs of the tarabagani, the very same species of giant crab that Moi had feasted last August. And since Moi is such a ramen freako, I tried their Sapporo ramen. NOT very disappointing though nothing too special also. The highlight of the whole dinner, other than the crabs, was definitely the desserts. Moi doesn't really have a sweet tooth for dessert but SUN with Moon's desserts compliment Moi quite well since it's NOT too sweet. In addition to my usual order of the tofu cheesecake, Moi also tried their oimo (yam) dessert with chestnut and kabocha (pumpkin) creme brulee. Creme brulee tends to taste super sweet due to the glass-like melted sugar on top but the use of pumpkin gave creme brulee a whole different kind of tasting. It wasn't sweet at all and tasted really fresh and soft. It was really delicious.

Dinner ended quite late but decided to hail a cab to go to the far West to pick up Mummy to head back home together in the far east. Daddy is overseas for the whole of this week and so there is only just the 2 of us... Seeing Dad and Mum growing older each day, just made me want to do more for them... even if it's a thrice the cab fare and thrice the distance, but if it can bring mummy home more comfortably... I LOVE TO DO IT.

Love you, Mummy.
