Doesn't below poster reminds you of the olden days Chinese poster advertisements with paintings of lady wearing qi-pao and endorsing some western products like perfume or cigarettes? Well, below is a Japanese vintage poster advertisement promoting one of Japan's earliest instant curry - Bon Kare.
Today after our mini-test (another bigger test awaits us next sunday), we went for a mini-feast to pamper ourselves. Kekekeke! And so I suggested this okinawan restaurant that I came by donkeys years ago.

In clockwise starting Top left corner : (1) Okinawan Soki Soba (2) Chahan (fried rice) with eel and egg (3) tebasaki (chicken wings) (4) goya chanpuru (bitter gourd) (5) Japanese Brown Rice (6) stewed pork belly (7) okinawan pancake (8) Dessert : Yam ice cream
The ambience was interesting and nice. There was a huge tv screen showing the beautiful okinawan waters and non-stop playing of okinawan music in the background. And the Japanese servers were really CUTE.... ONE did catch Moi and Twinny's eyes. ER...but too bad, he is all looks and NOTHING much up there. hahahahahaha! If you get what I mean. :-P
On the whole, the food was just average. Special thumbs up to the Okinawan Soki Soba and Dessert. The soba was a thin flat kind of noodle resembling somewhat of our chinese mee pok, but thinner and smoother in taste. The pork was also very soft and melted right inside the mouth. This was really very yummy. Ice cream was really special, reminded me of Island Creamy's Pulut hitam. The rest of the dishes were nothing much exciting. The taste was a little too blend. The bitter gourd was a little too old so it was too hard. The stewed pork belly was supposed to be Okinawan's speciality but tasted average. The pork was not stewed long enough and was still a little tough. The fried rice was not too bad though. In case, you though the Okinawan pancake was a big omelette, it's just made of flour with lots of seaweed, bonito flakes on it. It tasted better after dipping in Japanese's usta sauce. Usta sauce is one type of worcetershire sauce. I never quite make out what is usta sauce but it's very commonly used in Japanese cooking and food.
The bill didn't chalk up to be exponentially expensive except for the 3 green teas that we ordered!! We had intended the green tea to be those served in Japanese restaurant for a $1 or $2 and got a bit of a shock when our 3 green teas turn out to be 3 pots... We had to pay $3.80 for one which i think it's kind of steep for just green tea. GRRRRRRR!!
Food was average, service was not too bad, ambience was good, food was reasonably price... so Moi won't mind coming back again but this time i better keep to my plain water and definitely be ordering their soki soba again. hahahaha!
