Broke the record and I finally TASTED Romanée-Conti. *Tears of Joy* *Bliss* Romanée-Conti is the name of the vineyard in Burgundy, France that produces white and red wine, famous for producing the scarcest, most expensive and best wine in the world. So wine from Romanée-Conti even for a young vintage can fetch a rather hefty price.
Of course Moi did not try the S$8,000 one lah... =P We had Echézeaux, which is one of the variant produced from this one vineyard, Romanée-Conti. Quite a young vintage,1999 but it already costs a hefty S$1,300 for a bottle. Even the bartender opened the bottle so slowly and carefully...
and peeled the label so perfectly and put inside a record sheet for collectors...Ho-ho-ho-ho. I got it from Mr A. *wink*
It is simply so unforgetable taste. Wines from Burgundy tend to be more fruity and sweet. In other words, more mellow tasting and easy to drink. Echézeaux tastes prefectly. The taste is very smooth and soft not all tired and dried up. It's so smooth that it did not leave those after-taste in your mouth that we tend to get it when we drink red wine. It was so easy to drink so well flavoured and balanced. I think we had a good vintage (not too old and not too young). A too young wine will not have the winey taste while too old a wine sometimes will have too deep and too hard a taste. 1999 is only 8 years ago. Though the taste is not too deep but still winey and enticing enough. HEAVENLY!! Moi didn't want anything else after drinking this... ha-ha-ha-ha. The taste is simply too wonderful... thus I resisted to other demands that would "interrupt" this lovely taste thereafter. Simply Superb!
And where did we get it?? At the Cafe Bar k.
This is my second visit to this very clubbish, Unclish club. Hahahaha! Yup yup..i went with Uncles and Auntie. So you don't hear the loud music or noise from over-testosteroned knuckleheads. Once seated, you're handed a warm towel and sat on black leather armchairs...then dry bacon strips and potato chips would be served on an wedgewood plate.
This Cafe is very Japanese... even the bartenders are mostly Japanese and they have outlets in Ginza, Chiba and Anezaki. Of course, Cafe Bar K is also very expensive. They even charged you a sitting charge. Please NOTE I dun mean cover charge, it's sitting charge. You're charged just by sitting without any drinks. The price for the drink is separate. So expect yourself to pay a near $50 for one drink plus sitting charge. But this bar is sleek, sexy and nice. Behind the counter is a gigantic shelve with bottles and bottles of all kinds of wine, sake, whiskey, brandy, hard liquors, champagne, etc. You name it, they have it.. I am even more amazed that the bartenders know where each drink is place at their back of their hands. You don't find them scurrying away finding a correct drink for a concoction. On the top of the shelves are full of trophies that the Bartenders had won from the various international competition all over the world. And any bartender know how to make any concoction... the menu itself is super thick. You will be at lost at what to order; one, because of the huge variety; two, too many cocktails name, you aren't certain about the concoction; three, the price is not listed so you won't want to anyhow order a few hundred dollars or even a $50 drink. But not too worry, cause their attentive and friendly bartenders will be more than happy to whip up a surprise for you. Just ask. *wink*
Har... and Whiskey-lovers take note.... this place has a crazy varieties of Single-malts from Scotland and Japan. Ask for yours on the rocks and it comes with one giant, round and perfectly clear ice cube ball that is hand-chipped by the bartenders. Simply Amazing. =P
