Moghul Mahal Restaurant

Moghul Mahal had been around for more than 20 years, serving North indian food. It's a mid-range indian restaurant that it's not innocuously expensive though not extensively cheap neither. For a restaurant in a hotel in town, I would say it's very reasonably price. For below dishes we chalked up to about S$80 plus for 4 diners.

"Condiments" - Onion Chutney $1.50

Every table will be served this... I am not too sure if it is use for "enhancement" of food OR as a form of appetitizer. Anyway, it was left hardly touched at our table. kekeke! The brave soul that tasted the green looking sauce said that was made of grinded mint...ke... Moi didn't dare to try. For starters, we had their samosa which were pipping hot and nice. The crust was hard and crispy while the potato was still steaming inside the shell. Amazing good tasting.

Samosa (vegetable)

Though the food dishes appeared rather small, the small plates actually contained quite a good sizeable portion that won't leave you hungry. The Naan was ok. We had Kashmiri Naan, Cheese Naan, Garlic Naan and Masala Kulcha. My favourite was the Garlic Naan. =)

Naan - $16.50

The din din folks liked the chicken tandoori. It's not too bad but I think the marination was rather minty and Moi dun really like Mint flavour. So I only took one. I heard that the chicken tandoori takes at least 8 hours to prepare.

Chicken tandoori $12.00

Well, since we are at a indian restaurant, it would be so funny if we did not order curry... we prefer the gravy type which is known either as karahi or karai and we had mutton karahi. Tikka refers to the dry type of curry so we had the cauliflower tikka which is known as "Aloo Gobi Punjabi". But the special is Saag Paneer which is cheese mixed with spinach paste gravy. Er.. though it doesn't look very pleasing but it's actually very tummy. Heehee! All of us like it very much. Thanks for twinny's dearie's recommendation. Well...decided to give the dessert a miss as typical north india dessert is extremely sweet. =P

Karahi Gosht $15.90 + Aloo Gobi Punjabi $8.90 + Saag Paneer $11.00

What makes Moghul Mahal stands out from North Indian restaurant, I believe it's the simple food, the warm and friendly staff, and the pricing. In fact most of the staffs had been there for a very long long time since the restaurant started. The manager is a "fierce-looking" curly-hair uncle who can speak tamil and english but actually is a CHINESE. Kekekeke! He and another deaf lady had been working over at Moghul Mahal for a great many years. The restaurant is opened daily, even on public holiday.
