Pass by this cosy looking little cafe a number of occasions and has been very much tempted to visit it AND so finally I did. When I mentioned about cosy, it's really should-to-shoulder kind of cosy. Upon entering, you will be walking down a little narrow squeezy aisle with tables to your left, bar counter and kitchen to your right and a line of queuers ordering in the middle. Go figure how you going to walk your way. The far end of the cafe got bigger tables for bigger crowd though. Probably due to the space constraint, it's also quite a noise container so it can be rather noisy. But the staff exuded amazing energy and brightness that fill up the whole restaurant.
It's a saturday evening, super crowded, long queue, and obviously short-handed, the staff still take each order seriously with zest and even when i mentioned that they do not have glasses for their free flow of self-service water, the main chef quickly went to wash the cups and brought them out for me. PLUS point. I heard the Chef was really good and he is willing to cater and accommodate to your eating preferences, just asked. Well, of course, it also helps that the Chef is young with cute. =P
Personally I enjoy their service. We were greeted with both a Hi and a goodbye and thank you despite their busy preparations. And as the crowd grew, the young Chef gave a energized signal in a hearty voice "LET's MOVE FASTER!", everyone just worked with so much zest and positive energy. It's really rebounding. YUP!! Moi is so much in love with this place cause it's so cosy, the staff are great and I really like their creative and personalised deco.
But the uniqueness of this cafe lies in its missions :-
1. Good Food for a Good Cause
2. Educate the people, help end poverty
3. Encourage kind act
It was stated on their walls that a certain portions of their takings will go to charities to feed impoverished children. But how much?? Or really?? It's up to your own belief. If true, it's definitely a good cause and very noble concept though, make spending money in this cafe much more meaningful. Well, my din-din partner shared his opposite view.. he is rather skeptical how much really goes to charities or it may be just another marketing gimmick. He also thinks the service is BAD because of the long wait due to the crowd. I leave it to YOU to judge.
I would thought, due to the space constraint, they should do away with either the aisle seats or the counter seats to make more space and to print their menu and let diners tick on little order form to pass to the cashier instead of reading off the wall menu and do their ordering as it will really held up the crowd especially when you got a HUGE crowd of teenagers in front you - the new Generation Z of NO CHARACTER AND MIND!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! The girls will be whispering and whispering and remaining indecisive as to what to order from the so limited menu. Moi is the impatient kind so such behaviours are extremely irritating. >_<
Well, though SuSe thought little of their service, he still loves their dessert. Moi loves it too...it takes 10 - 15 mins to prepare their desserts but the wait is all worthwhile. * wink * Food for thought serves mainly healthy salads and simple dishes mainly sandwiches. Their favourite desserts are nutella cupcakes, flourless almond cakes and red velvet cakes, which unfortunately Moi didn't try. I ordered their bread and pudding instead with their recommended lychee sage freeze. Both are really delectable. I love them so much. The dessert was served piping warm with a dash of cold vanilla ice cream on top of piping hot cinnamon bread with pudding.
Lychee Sage freeze wasn't too sweet and really fresh. The lychee was freshly squeezed. Really nice. I was concerned if they will add in Mint or some herbs into the freeze and did ask the counter staff before ordering. AND pricing is really reasonable starting from $6.50 for a main course and without service charge and GST.
