Well, the conspiracy came out well. We wanted to squeeze dry Bubbles for her din din treaty last friday. And we sure did...BUT the mastermind wasn't me and that's a definite. Hey, I am not so wicked though I wasn't a kind soul neither. Hahahaha! The poor dear forked our nearly $200 for a dinner of 5 pax. Sorry dear but we enjoyed so much too. THANKS.
THE VENUE for the conspiracy at the cozy but a little run-down Russian restaurant, Shashlik tucked away in Far East Shopping Centre. AND BOO BOO to Buttercup that got misled by Twin 2 to the wrong venue and still got the cheek to text and scold me for meeting wrong place. Sotong See, Sotong do. Wahahahaa!
Entering the restaurant, feels a little bit back in time since the deco is old, the furniture is old and even the staff are old. I remember last visited this place like a good 5-7 years ago and still the same set of Uncles and Aunties serve us. Well, we never know when time to come if Shashlik is not able to find new generation to take over this restaurant, it might just walk into history like the many traditional restaurants and eateries. But I love the feeling of being able to dine there in such an old cozy atmosphere... reminded me of the days I spent at Grandfather's restaurant as a kid....

Twinny highly recommended the appetizer, Egg Millionaire and soups and so we tried the following :-

In clockwise starting Top left corner : (1) Egg Millionaire (2) Mushroom cream soup (3) Corn soup (4) Chicken consomme' soup
Maybe because we had too much high expectations due to Twinny's recommendation, the Egg Millionaire tasted just so-so. The soups though not diluted, were far from fantastic also. Thought the corn soup was a little thicker and tasted rather good among the rest of the soups. I did check out later that their specialty soup is Borsch Soup which is beef so again it's out of question for Moi. =(
Next came the main entrees, we had all the Shashlik meat which is skewered roasted rack of meat. The meat were a little dry though not too tough. It reminds me of a dinner at Jack's place but a little more costly. But I would say the food at Shashlik is better than that at Jack's place.

In clockwise starting Top left corner : (1) Baked fish (2) Shashilik lamb (3) Shashilik pork (4) Shashilik chicken
After our meals, we ordered the desserts which needed a good 20 minutes to prepare. But it was worth it. I really like the desserts.

Baked Alaska
A "normal" looking cake was served and the server splashed over the cake with some dark rum and set it on ignition. The whole dessert is flambéed while being served. It's really a pretty sight. The cream outside was a little charred and warm and tasted really soft and nice. Underneath the cream, it's a thin covering of sponge cake and the centre is cold ice cream. Amazing. It seems that this dish came about when American physicist Benjamin Thompson discovered that beaten egg whites are rather heat resistance and would not conduct the heat to the ice cream, keeping this dish warm on the outside and cold on the inside. Yummy!!!
It didn't really occur to me that our next dessert, Cherries Jubilee carries any special significant other than being yummy. =P Yup yup, the desserts are really nice here. The cherries are first simmered with orange zest and flambéed with brandy and dish out and serve with ice cream. A mixture of cold and warm taste like the earlier Baked Alaska. I did a quick check and discovered that Cherries Jubilee is actually specially created in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's 50th year as reigning monarch. Thus the name "Jubilee" behind the "Cherries". Interesting, isn't it?
Well, if you can wait. Do wait. These 2 are really refreshing dessert especially after a hearty meal. Yum Yum Yummy!!

Come on Evil Twin1, regardless of what you do/say, as long as you nag at me for my Mr Zhou's date, there is still the Angel Twin2. So, don't blame Buttercup \^.^/
