Pork Knuckle

Posting on food again!! Hahahahaha! Yes! Remember, I am living to eat and not eat to live. ;-P This place was highly recommended by a friend who wanted to bring us all to try authentic German sausage and pork knuckle. Coincidentally, this place was also recommended just last week on Channel U's Makan King.

Well, the idea of eating pork knuckle did seem rather sinful with rocketing cholestrol and oil BUT my friend assured that it's not going to be so. SO we ordered.... their pork knuckle in Bavarian Style. This place serves pork knuckle in two ways - Bavarian or Berlin style - meaning either grilled or boiled. Drooooooling. The taste is simply irresistable. The meat is moist and tender and the skin is so crispy and chewy. The chef managed to grill it very gently to remove all the excess fat and oil. Yummy yummy!! b(^o^)d *Thumbs up*

Mouth-watering Grilled Bavarian Knuckle with mashed peas and sauerkraut

Other than their very special signature dish, we also ordered a bowl of salad of iceberg lettuce, two pumpkin soup, a beef tartare (raw grounded beef with egg, eaten by my friends), a cheese sausage, a chicken sausage with Kale, a majest herring served with mashed potato, a plate of baked potatoes in skin, a pizza-like dish known as flammkuchen topped with sour cream, ham and onion. The flammkuchen is different from the normal pizza for its use of creme fraiche or fromage blanc instead of a tomato paste. I specially like flammkuchen (German style pizza) as the crust is so very thin and crispy.

They also served very unique desserts. We ordered two : a toasted cheese dessert in cranberry sauce, chocolate mousses and a Gebackene Apfelscheiben mit Zimthonig which is baked apple slices in puff pastry with honey and powdered cinnamon. The toasted cheese did not taste anything like cheese at all.... it was neither sweet nor too cheesy. It was really nice... The baked apple slices were served pipping hot and emitted a nice fragrance.

The whole restaurant has only two chefs. Today, unfortunately one was on leave and only one chef was preparing all the dishes. It was amazing to watch him from our table serving so many patrons single-handedly and yet still able to dish out nice, pipping hot dishes. *jaws dropped*

This place is definitely worth a trip. There were 5 of us and discounting our drinking fees containing German beer, Monkpils and German red wine; the total only came up to S$150.00. Amazing price for such delicaces where all the ingredients were air-flown from Germany and the 2 German chefs took so much pride to prepare each dish attentively. The setting is also very cosy and simple. Other than food and wine, the adjoining room beside the restaurant also sells German food stuffs, pickles etc. I believe Magma will be a good hangout for the German Expatriates staying in Singapore. Moi will definitely be going back again for the food!! (^_-)v
