Hongkong Streets

For a restaurant in town area, the price is rather reasonable and cheap. Moi found the cooking a little oily but overall, still very platable. It seems more like some local Chinese cuisine rather than Hongkong streets food and it might be a much pleasant place to stay around if not for the blasting MTV...

Reflections of 2009

Reflecting over my 2009, much changes.... my job, my life, my martial status, etc. eMy thinking, my life perspectives, my value in life, my goals, my priorities. With the different things that happened in my life, the different experience, I was able to or forced to grow.

The demise of Woof boy.

The departure of Bread Parpas and Marmas back to their hometown.

Departure from my first ever job and going to a new job.

My additional responsibilities as Mrs SuSe.

The growing up of little aka.

And so what's next for 2010?

I believe this is the prime of my life as I am comfortable with who I am and what I am doing and I can now focus on doing things that really meant something to me.

Closing Time - Semisonic

Source : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFV5DZTgqKw

Closing time - time for you to go out, go out into the world.
Closing time - turn the lights up over every boy and every girl.
Closing time - one last call for alcohol, so finish your whiskey or beer.
Closing time - you don't have to go home but you can't stay here.

I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
Take me home...

Closing time - time for you to go back to the places you will be from.
Closing time - this room won't be open 'til your brothers or you sisters come.
So gather up your jackets, and move it to the exits - I hope you have found a friend.
Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning'send.

Yeah, I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
Take me home...

Closing time - time for you to go back to the places you will be from...

I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
Take me home...

Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning'send...

Stay away

On one hand I do really look forward to their visit but on the other hand, I felt imprisonment. I am like what many will brand a connector according to Gladwell's Tipping Point. But on other hand, I really dislike the feeling of being close with another person, having an additional person to add on to my sphere of influence. It just wears me out completely.

I am very fearful and tired of building additional close ties with anyone else to the point, I am rejecting new "friends".... I know I might sound really blunt, unappreciative or even hurtful but I had reach my point of exhaustion and weariness and just want to tell you....

if you really likes me a lot and want to be nice to me.... just do me this great favour...

PLEASE STAY AWAY & DUN BE NICE TO ME!!

Thanks!

Tatsu Sushi

It does felt really rather good that an overseas ex-supplier actually gave me a ring to ask me for lunch while he dropped in for a business trip recently. Well, at my new workplace, unfortunately, I do not have that leisure long lunch hour that I used to enjoy at my previous company so Moi had to tell NoNo-san that it got to quick and near my workplace. And the sweet him did oblige. ^_-) arigatou!

So we ventured to Tatsu Sushi inside Chijmes for lunch. This was Moi's second visit as I recalled after my first visit, I felt this place thought serve very fresh and nice sushi and sashimi, is really too pricey. Maybe it was with economic downturn, I was surprised to enjoy my bara chirashi sushi set at $18. Bara chirashi sushi is actually diced version of chirashi sushi and chirashi sushi is like your usual rice-don set except that instead of pork cutlet or chicken on top, you got scattered sushi on top. Not only was sushi fresh and tasty, the vinegar sauce tasted just nice.

Yummy yummy!! Thanks NoNo-san!!

Black Angus

Quite a secular little place so when Bread Marmas was raving to me about this place, I felt I really need to go take a look. It was a little obscure so we went down a little dat earlier to ensure we have enough time to get lost. I like the serenity, the quietness, the earth fresh smell.....

located just opposite NUS Law campus

cosy...inside

Can't recall exactly what we had cause I didn't manage to capture any shots. But definitely must tried their Wild Wild West Onion. It was so addictive but Moi felt the portion was a little too huge so if you are not with a big group, it will be hard to have this huge onion dish by yourself.

We ordered the Rib Eye Beef, Chicken and Prime Ribs. Black Angus is supposed to be famous for their beef but the feedback I got was mediocre. I felt the chicken was a bit too dry but though the skin was roasted rather evenly. The Prime ribs bowled over SuSe who thought it tasted so much better than Tony Romas... i felt it was rather comparable.

However I felt the tranquil ambience and environment does make the food taste more pleasing and nice..well of course the company does play a good part too. Kudos to Goku and ChiChi with their new additions. ^_-)

Orange Alert

So what with server downtime and orange alert? Dun ask me cause I was informed so when my workplace changed from yellow to orange alert and we were made to take temperature daily. The workplace moi is in now is like cross junction with high influx of human traffic and international traffic so it was no wonder the cautious.

Yesterday was the first day of the ORANGE alert and my temperature was taken at the entrance by the security.

Security : AIYO!! 37 degrees!!

Moi (to self) : 37?? very high meh????

Moi : Why? Means QUARANTINE!??? can i go home now??? * grin *

Security : No lah! 37.8 degree then can go home.

Chey!! Moi will be so happy to be "quarantine" at home for a good 7 days. Hahahahha!

Rojak?

Well this place got a 8 on hungrygowhere.com but for Moi it will rank much lower in terms of quality and price. The food was not too bad but for that price, Moi will expect a better quality service and food. The chef tries too hard to be unique (Japanese and french fusion) that he is losing the idea what basis food requires. Well, let's said, they could be better.

In clockwise starting Top left corner : (1) bread with cream and caviar (2) Japanese tofu with plum sauce (4) Sushi with miso soup (5) lobster soup (6) soba dish topped with grated dry mullet roe (bottarga) (7) Some kind of fish brain (8) Duck (9) fried grains (rice) (10) Pumpkin soup

The ten course meal comes up to $138+++ per pax. I think it's some kind of promotion. Moi didn't manage to take down the names of the dishes so can't recall the dishes well.

Picotin

Well, well, we only managed to arrive this place with a SOS call and a few miss turns. But thanks SuperModel for the recommendation. The food was super duper luper nicey. Moi was quite surprise that despite being such a small place, Picotin could accommodate so many people and even horses. In fact, Moi like the whole laid-back countryside atmosphere and service was really great. All the waiter and waitress knew all the items very well and could remember to get back to you proper. So Five * * * * * for Picotin. \(^_^)/

Smoked Duck $16.00

The appetizer, smoked duck does seem a little pricey since portion was rather small, only a few slices of duck meat. The duck meat was sliced very thinly and cupped with the sauce tasted just right.

Vongole Linguine $20.00

The linguine tasted just al denta and not overpowered by the sauce so one can taste the freshness of the clams. Moi is not much of a clam person but Supermodel is a clam-lover so this will be the girl's favourite. We had pan fried cod with buttered spinach, lyonnaise potatoes, white wine, shallots and mushroom sauce as our main. Again, Moi is not a fish's fan but this was really good. I really like this!!! The fish was fresh and sweet and the sauce wasn't overpowering so you can taste everything really nicely.

Panfried Cod $30.00

The disappointment came with our order for our desserts. I had never tasted something so so sweet that I felt like eating hard sweetened candy rock. I hope it was just a wrong choice on my part. The orange millefeuille was still palatable as the crispy crust still kind of balance off the sweet orange cream a little BUT not the iced vacherin. That will definitely be my first and last try. Shouldn't have trusted my gut feeling that vacherin is cheese and so should not be too sweet.

Iced Vacherin $11.00

Blood orange Millefeuille $10.00

Straits Chinese Restaurant

The straits chinese restaurant had been in UIC building for a very long time... didn't discover this restaurant until Mr Santa gave me my farewell lunchie there. The place was crowded with working people and also tour groups. Food is rather tasty, and I like their sambal chili sauce and their appetisers - Sambal Timun. Yummy!!

Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant

This was twinny's treat @ newly renovated Nanxiang Steamed Bun. My previous experience here was not very good and I had found the food not the least to my liking. I was rather hesitant to give it a second go if not for Twinny's insistence. The new deco though made the whole place look more sleek and modern, gave me a sense of poor space management arrangement. Every seats and space were heavily crammed and squeezed, giving it a rather unpleasant seating capacity due to its bulky "carriages". To Moi, it serves no purpose since the place was small and it will be impossible to enjoy the privacy and quietness the "carriages" were meant to serve.

That apart, Moi was rather impressed with the much improved service and food. The food was no where of the old Nanxiang when it was something you were ate once and never return. The food had definitely improved compared to previous. Moi's favourites were the crab roe soup in prawn ball, the homemade beancurd and the golden pumpkin cakes. It was a rather refreshing and unexpected combination and the taste went rather well with myself. Mummy Teddy Bear was all up and enthusiastic about the trying out the special sauce smoked fish. First, Moi was never a fan of any fishes and the idea of serving the smoked fish in chilled condition brought out the "fishy" smell which I hated. The cinnamon flower sticky cake was Mummy's favourite, Moi had not much liking to it.

Nevertheless, must thank sweet twinny for the treat. It was with rare occasion when family comes together.

In clockwise starting Top left corner : (1) (2) Crab roe soup in prawn ball $5.20 (3) Homemade beancurd $5.80 (4) Nanxiang dumpling noodle soup $8.00 (5) Stir fried dou miao $9.80 (6) Pork filling dumplings - xiao long bao (7) Crab roe and pork filling dumplings (8) Chilled fried fish in special sauce $8.20 (9) Jia Jiang Mian (10) Nanxiang drunkard chicken

Transition

I am in the midst of transiting... It's really a very confusing and "draining" feeling - mixture of happiness, anticipation, sadness, emptiness and fear. Yes!! Fear!! Fear of the coming out from my too comfort circle, fear of the unknown future and yet the excitement of facing the new future and life with my new "coaster". I even crafted a few notebooks and a lanyard for my new job. And had booked my lunch appointments with friends next month at my new place. Well it's may sounds a little exaggerating but I was that EXCITED!!!

But first let me get my office portable harddisk fixed... and no thanks to Uncle SuSe who commented that I was being such a chor lor to broke the USB point. Anyway I am going to fix it up ALL MYSELF by hook or crook!! SNORT!!

AND CLEAR my MOUNTAIN OF WORK Before my EXIT. * Heaved BIG Sigh! *

Post Edit
Managed to change the casing BUT I cant get my office laptop to "detect" it!! GRRR!! So now I am opening my ibook and to share the harddisk with my office laptop as I dun have some of the applications on my ibook. GRRRRRRRRRR!! Irritating!!
