The Run

I hardly slept a wink the night before... NOT that it wasn't comfortable enough or quiet enough. It's just difficult for Moi to sleep at 9pm at night. Twinny had went through quite a bit of trouble to "prepare" Moi for a good sleep :

1) Bunking at her place and on her bed so that her poor dearie got to sleep in another room.

2) Pre-cooked nice claypot rice and fried rice so that I can eat it immediately upon reaching her place.

3) Preparing bath so that I can take it immediately upon reaching her place.

4) Making breakfast for me at 2:30am in the morning so that I could catch another 10 minutes sleep.

This is just so Sweet Sweet Twinny. Muackz.

And all these only because of my RUN last sunday. Though I am doing the 6-click run which only started at 8am, I had intended to reach there super-super early to cheer our 21km participants and 12km participants (deaf and hearing) who are running for our cause. The whole gang of us capped in our Mutant tees, did look quite a little like either a ninja turtle or a L.G.M. But it's for a good cause so Moi ain't complaining. We did not have many runners only 10 for both the 21km and 12km runs but still I think it's worthwhile making a trip down to give them a little moral support and to cheer them onz. ^_-)

Thanks to Super-kiasu SuSe, Moi reached the Esplanade by 3:30am. Yup!! We are so siao... while SuSe moved on to look for his running kakis, Moi went around receeing the area and getting ready. Went up half an hour early on the bridge for both the 21km and 12km runs to cheer the runners. It was quite a feat trying to spot 1 runner in a sea of thousands over participants. BUT our tees were TOO OUTSTANDING, thus making spotting fellow mutants a much easier task than expected. Kekekeke!

Yawn!! 5:15am, 21km Run ...going to start soon.....

By the time, it was my turn to do the 6km, Moi was a bit wee tired. But thanks to Pooh and Smurfette that kept me onz...Moi managed to complete it at around 40mins. Though I was a little shocked and upset to learn about the news of the 21km participants that died after completing the race... this again enforce the hard tough fact that life is fragile and we should treasure every moment and the people around us and not be fussing over small issues and turning around in circles.

Completing this race was just a small milestone to show our determination to do something out of our ordinary routines to prove that the deaf is able and that the deaf can work. MP Ms Denise Phua was our Guest of Honour to grace our event. I was very touched by her sharing, her enthusiasm and her spirit. She went all out of the intended schedule to come to the starting line to cheer our 6km runners, to hold our banner high and run for a 100m along with the deaf. She spent a good one hour just waiting for all our runners and gave a very encouraging and moving speech that she may not be able to run this race with us but she will definitely wants to run the life race with the deaf and to do within her possible means to make Singapore more compassionate, loving, stronger and courageous society. She ended with a quote from Oscar-winning deaf actress, Marlee Matlin.

"Every one of us is different in some way, but for those of us who are more different, we have to put more effort into convincing the less different that we can do the same thing they can, just differently."

Back in Time - The Colbar

Had been hearing about the Colonial Bar and has been wanting to go there. AND SO Moi finally went there...Why so much buzz and stir about this little rundown eatery which serves pretty basic local western and chinese food like chicken and pork chops, fish and chips, curries etc?

The Colonial bar, abbreviated Colbar came a looooooooong way. It was opened in 1953 as a canteen for British military personnel of nearby army barracks. After the British left, expatriates and locals continued to patronise the eatery, as much for the food as for its laidback and bygone ambience.

It was closed down in 2003 to make way for a new road, but after a successful petition by regulars initiated by JTC, the original bar was moved, brick by brick (minus the asbestos roof), to its present location in Whitchurch Road, just 5 minutes' walk away from its previous location. AMAZING, right?

I visited the Colbar with much anticipation and I was not a bit disappointed. In fact, I like it so much that I want to come back again purely for nostalgia feeling. Upon entering Colbar, I felt myself behind transformed back in time. Time seems to be locked in this little restaurant... laidback, peaceful, quiet and slow.

The interior is painted blue and cream and the walls are adorned with old posters and photos of English football clubs and military regiments. The table found inside the rooms are those of olden days with those wooden like folding chairs scattered about. The tables are not botled to the floor and one can step in and rearrange as to where you want to sit. I noticed that most people prefer to eat outside and they are free to carry a table outside, place it in the grass, or the open balcony for their meal.

Inside there is no air conditioning, only ceiling fans, and hot air escapes via the old style grills located where the ceiling meets the walls, a feature common in most colonial-era buildings. To add on the nostalgia, at the entrance of Colbar is a very old weighing scale which seems to be some kind of mascot of Colbar together with this old, old tv set.

The service - no-frills but fairly efficient and polite. After checking through the menu and deciding your food, you will need to go to the cashier counter to order and make payments. Twinny's dearie got a little thrill to find that Colbar offers Sinalco which is the oldest softdrink brand in Europe and hardly served in Singapore now.

But the double surprise for Moi was to discover that Uncle Giant is working at Colbar. I was so excited when I saw him. Hahahahahaha! And of course I am so proud of him too. I know in family hearts, Grandfather and Uncle Giant will and always be the World Best Chef. ^_-) And that's also the reason why Mummy dearest got such wonderful culinary genes.

So we ordered .....

In clockwise starting Top left corner : (1) Menu (2) Pork Chop (3) Pork Cutlet and Mushroom (4) Steak (5) Beef Curry (6) Egg Curry

The western food is nothing to really shout about but the curries are nice. I tried their vegetable curry and the taste was really great, not too spicy, not too sweet, just nice. The food is reasonable though not hawker centre price, more skew towards family restaurant price but the ambience and the nostalgia feeling - Priceless.

The Colbar
9A Whitchurch Road,
off Portsdown Road
Tel: 6779 4859

Opening hours

From there walk across the bridge crossing the Ayer Rajah Expressway, walk along the edge of the soccer fields and archery field and you will find yourself at the corner of Jalan Hang Jebat and Portsdown Road. Turn right at that corner and the Colbar will be the first establishment on the left.

Tykkish language

Little ABC Junior just turned two a few months back but the little tyke can utter quite a mouthful of words... So the other day when i was playing mar sha with the sweetie.... doing role-playing with her as my mother feeding her kid, Moi.

As I was doing my imaginary mummum action, I asked the little tyke...

Me : What's that?

ABC Junior : Sai sai.

Was a little "shocked" and taken aback by the vocabulary used by ABC junior.

ABC Junior : A-Twin 1 Auntie, eat sai sai. [pretending to put food into Moi's mouth]

Even though it's just an imaginary game, I felt a little uncomfortable knowing that ABC Junior was "feeding" sai sai to me... So I took a toy vegetable and asked her to feed Moi with that instead...

ABC Junior : Sai sai. [she repeated again while pointing to the toy vegetable.]

Oopss..what was Moi's thinking or hearing??? The little innocent sweetie had meant "sai sai" to be "cai cai" all along... *blush* kekeke!

Fireworks

Didn't intend to watch the fireworks tonight but then I had to work late and at 9pm, I was still in office. So I thought I should just step out of my building to catch a glimpse of the fireworks. Fireworks never fail to mesmerize me. They are so beautiful and yet to short-lived. You cant really capture the moment in video or film as the feeling will always be different from seeing the real one in action. One should live a beautiful and meaningful life like the fireworks however short it is...

Though I went to watch the fireworks alone, I wasn't lonely.....

Japanese Dude : Wat havppun?

Me : Fireworks.

Japanese Dude : Fiyawoks?

Me : yup..there is going be some fireworks soon so the crowd is gathering...

The Japanese Dude most probably rushed out of his office seeing huge masses of Singaporean hanging out in the middle of the road and wondering if the sky is going come crashing down har. hahahahha!

* * * *

China Lady : Excuse Me. The fireworks is here?

Me : Err...?? The fireworks is over there at the Esplanade.

China Lady : Esplanade is here?

Me (to self) : Oopss... lady you must be a tourist. Here isn't Esplanade.

Me : You can still view from here but the fireworks is over at the Esplanade. [Points to Esplanade direction]

China Lady : So go nearer can see clearer, is it?

Me : Yup...logically. But the fireworks is in the sky so even if you are not that close, you can still get a good view.

Kiasu looking lady started to drag another lady and rushed to front.... the crowd is horrendous. I was glad I came to watch the fireworks. It's lovely...no regrets to go back to office to work till 10 plus. Heehee!

I will by The Beatles

This song is lovely on guitar...

Who knows how long I've loved you
You know I love you still
Will I wait a lonely lifetime
If you want me to--I will.

For if I ever saw you
I didn't catch your name
But it never really mattered
I will always feel the same.

Love you forever and forever
Love you with all my heart
Love you whenever we're together
Love you when we're apart.

And when at last I find you
Your song will fill the air
Sing it loud so I can hear you
Make it easy to be near you
For the things you do endear you to me
You know I will
I will.

American BBQ

It was a nice sunday evening... and ABC and family invited Moi for BBQ at their nice cosy adobe somewhere in the west west part of our little island. Moi has been looking much forward to it cause ABC and hubby had enticed Moi with an American BBQ and not just our typical Singaporean BBQ. Oooooooo.....with sausages and meat from the Swiss butchery along Hillcrest Road.

As the usual kapoh Moi, I decided to lend ABC a hand (dun care if she wants or not...kekeke! =J) since morning when the flower was still fresh and fragrant. *wink* I was so enthusiastic to go down to ABC's Adobe right after my trial run which started at 730am. Hahahahaha!

This is the Swiss Butchery but unfortunately it was NOT OPENED on Sunday. AWwwwwwwww!! =( So disappointing. But ABC more than make up for it with yet other nice sausages from Pan Pacific and bread from Cedele by Bakery Depot. Kekekeke! Yup yup! ABC and family simply love me to bits. Envy leh!!

Call the FIRE ENGINE!!!

Green, red, yellow peppers, tomato and onions on Skews

ABC spent good time marinating, cutting up and skewing all the peppers up. ^_-) The bread from Cedele is very soft and nice because all the bread is specially kneaded and shaped by hand only. The soft bread goes well with the BBQ food and we couldn't stop eating.

Look at the meat....drooling!!

Halfway through the BBQ, it started to rain but that did not detour the BOYS... who were still so enthusiastic to BBQ the food in the rain...

Umbrella for food not people leh!!

But the rain got too big and we were force to dis-band. =( BUT we proceeded to ABC's cosy place for home-made banana cake by Autumn and nice wines. Kekeke! Autumn was simply amazing. She used organic ingredients and baked the whole cake inside her rice-cooker. UNBELIEVABLE!! AND the taste!!? Awesome!! Autumn's hubby is sure one lucky fellow har!! heehee!

Had a wonderful BBQ despite the sudden rain. Thanks ABC and family for inviting and most important I had lots of fun eating and playing with ABC Junior as usual.

Hong Kong Kim Gary

Twinny and her dearie cheoh me and Suse for dinner at this Hongkong cafe @ Vivo city. In recent years, many hongkong cafe had sprouted all over our little island serving similar tasting food so I wasn't that enthusiastic to visit yet another hongkong cafe. BUT Hong Kong Kim Gary surprised me. The food was yummy and I love it less off the queuing time. =P But twinny was the one queuing so Moi aren't complaining. Hahahahaha! I would say the food here is slightly above the rest of the hongkong cafe that Moi had visited. The servers serving us were also very chirpy and friendly despite having to handle so many orders and customers requests. Maybe we are lucky to get the friendly auntie to serve us. =) So we ordered....

Coffee with Lemon Hot

This is the only NO NO I had. NO MORE Coffee with Lemon. It tasted really weird and I couldn't even finish half the cup. The rest were ok especially Twinny's pork baked rice. That was really yummy not too salty or cheesy. AND Price!? The price is reasonable and I would say cheap so Moi will definitely be back again. ^_-)

Nissin Noodles with luncheon meat and egg

French Toast

Spaghetti set with combo mix

Pork baked rice

I had the fuyong egg wrap fried rice. The fuyong egg was super but not the rice... the rice was a little hard but overall, still yummy.

WILD WILD WORLD

What's going in your head when you saw below ad. targetting at Singapore youths? Wild S** Party? Finding "FUN" Partners services? And still can win money somemore. WHOOSZ!!! Bingo!! All WRONG!! I suppose it aims to create sensation, attention, controversy and it did. THE Message is to call on youths to form team of four or more and come up with a creative and imaginative marketing campaign to raise AIDS awareness among youths.

I do agree that it's a little too LOUD but then it really serves it purpose :

(1) GET people's attention to look at it.

(2) EMPHASIZE the message of the power of advertisement.

Doraemon Power

Bub promises to treat us din din and had previously arranged a date, but had to change it and even change her date to accomodate Buttercup's date. So was teasing Buttercup over texting that her face is soooooooooo BIG that even the hostess had to change her date for her.

Me : Wow! Your face so big to make Bubbles change time.

Buttercup : Ya lor...I put on weight, so big face.

Me : Will put your fat face reply on my blog. hahahaha!

Buttercup : Sure. Feel free to put my intelligent and humourous sms on your blog. Good things must share. hohoho....

Me : Your face not only fat also thick.

Buttercup : That's the doraemon's power!

So here's it, folks... The char bor who never fails to left me in jiggers.
